Exhibition "Velikiy Novgorod — The Cradle of Russian Statehood"

An exhibition of photographs was organised as part of the Velikiy Novgorod festival in Kerala. Former Minister of Kerala and politician Mr Pandalam Sudhakaran inaugurated the exhibition. Mr Madhupal, filmmaker and Chairman of the Kerala State Cultural Welfare Board, Mr M S Jayakumar, Director of Jeevan TV, and people representing different walks of life were present at the inaugural function.

In his inaugural address, Mr Pandalam Sudhakaran underlined the necessity of strengthening regional cooperation between Russian provinces and Indian states. "Novgorod has more than a millennium-old history. The Russian statehood began from here. This rich land deserves more international attention," said Mr Sudhakaran.

Mr Madhupal lauded the necessity of promoting Russian regions like Novgorod among tour operators in India.

More than sixty photographs highlighting the natural beauty of the region, active leisure, winter, sports, Novgorod Kremlin, historical places, people and culture were displayed at the Roerich Art Gallery of the Russian House.

The cooperation between Velikiy Novgorod and Kerala began with the visit of the delegation from the Russian province headed by Mr Andrei Nikitin in November 2022. MoUs were signed in the fields of education, trade and culture. The festival of Velikiy Novgorod began in June 2024 and various programmes were organised at the different venues in Kerala.
