Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov's visit to India

On January 14-15, 2020, Mr Sergey Lavrov, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, arrived in New Delhi with a working visit. Mr Lavrov paid a call on the Prime Minister of the Republic of India Mr Narendra Modi, held talks with Dr S. Jaishankar, Minister of External Affairs, Government of India..<br />

The topical issues of bilateral relations with a focus on preparation for the upcoming Russian-Indian summit in 2020, as well as a number of global and regional agenda issues were discussed.<br />
<br />
This year marks the 20th anniversary of the Declaration of Strategic Partnership between Russia and India. In this context, Mr Lavrov and Dr Jaishankar highly praised the level of trust in Russia-India cooperation and noted the strengthening of bilateral ties.<br />
<br />
The sides reaffirmed common approach of Russia and India for global and regional issues, including peaceful settlement in Afghanistan, Syria, implementation of the JCPOA, as well as security architecture set up in the Asia-Pacific region and in the Indian Ocean.<br />
<br />
The Parties expressed mutual intention to continue coordinating actions in the international arena and multilateral formats, such as the SCO, BRICS and RIC. The general commitment for building a polycentric world order based on fair and democratic principles and the rule of law was reaffirmed.<br />
<br />
Mr Lavrov also took part in the annual international conference "The Raisina Dialogue", held on January 14-16 in New Delhi.
