Russian Embassy diplomats participated in Himalayan Roerich Estate events

On October 9, the diplomatic staff of the Russian Embassy in India visited the Memorial Estate of the Roerichs in Naggar in the Himalayan Kullu Valley (Himachal Pradesh) and took part in the Festival dedicated to the 145th Birth Anniversary of a great Russian artist, philosopher, thinker and public figure Nicholas Roerich and the 115th Birth Anniversary of his son Svetoslav Roerich, also a renowned artist and the founder of the International Roerich Memorial Trust (IRMT). The festive events were hosted by the IRMT with the support of the Embassy, the Kullu District Administration and Russian volunteers.

The inauguration ceremony was opened with a welcome address by the Russian Ambassador to India, H.E. Mr Nikolay Kudashev. Speeches were delivered by Dr Hari Chauhan, Curator of the Himachal State Museum, Mrs Larisa Surgina and Mr Ramesh Chandra, curators of the Roerich Estate Museum Complex in Naggar, and the representatives of the Roerichs’ movement.

The celebration at the Memorial Estate saw the unveiling of the bronze busts to Nicholas and Helena Roerich by Alexey Leonov, sponsored by the Dialogue of Cultures – United World Foundation. It is the second monument to the Roerichs in Naggar. The guests had the opportunity to enjoy two art exhibitions: one of a painter, graphic artist of the XX century Boris Smirnov-Rusetskiy and his disciples, another - of a contemporary author Lola Lonli.

The festivities culminated in the concert at the Green Theatre by the Helena Roerich Academy of Arts alumni and teachers as well as the young artists of the Obraz folk dance company (Kaluga) – participants of the 10th Himalayan expedition organized by the Dostoyanie Interregional Public Organization in cooperation with the Russian Embassy and the Russian Centre of Science and Culture in New Delhi. On October 8, the Obraz youth ensemble performed at the International Kullu Dussehra Festival.
