International conference on teaching Russian as a foreign language held in New Delhi

On August 21-23, a three-day International Scientific-Practical Conference "Teaching Russian as a Foreign Language and Literature in India: Trends and Development Prospects" organized by Rossotrudnichestvo and Sodruzhestvo LLC under the Federal Target Program of Education Development and supported by the Russian Embassy was held at the Russian Centre of Science and Culture (RCSC) in New Delhi.

The Conference was opened by Mr Roman Babushkin, Minister-Counsellor of the Russian Embassy in India, Mr Fedor Rozovsky, Director of the RCSC  in New Delhi, Prof. Ravinder Menon, President of the Indian Association of Teachers of Russian Language and Literature, Prof. Shankar Basu, President of the Delhi Alumni Association of Soviet/Russian Academic Institutions, Prof. Abhai Mauria, former Vice-Chancellor of the English and Foreign Languages University (Hyderabad).

During the event, the Pushkin Medal "For great contribution to the spread of the Russian language" was awarded to Prof. Meeta Narayan, Jawaharlal Nehru University.

The Conference was attended by prominent specialists in Russian as a foreign language from Lomonosov Moscow State University, Moscow State Regional University, as well as more than 60 philologists representing Jawaharlal Nehru University, University of Delhi, Aligarh Muslim University and other Indian institutes.
Substantive discussions on theoretical and practical aspects of teaching, thematic seminars and master classes, as well as online course “Actual Aspects of Teaching Russian as a Foreign Language: New Techniques, Trends, Innovations” featuring lectures by leading methodologists and textbook authors were held in the framework of the event.
