Diplomatic Football Tournament in New Delhi

On June 10, Russian Embassy in India with the support of “Aeroflot” organized the first international football tournament among the diplomatic missions in New Delhi.
The teams from the diplomatic missions of Russia, Denmark, Germany, Kazakhstan, China, France and the UN took part in the sport competition dedicated to the forthcoming 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia. After all the football matches Russian diplomats gained convincing victory, French diplomats took the second place, and the UN team took bronze.
Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports, Minister of Information and Broadcasting of India H.E. Mr Rajyavardhan S. Rathore, President of the Delhi Football Association Mr Shaji Prabhakaran, Russian Ambassador to India H.E. Mr Nikolay R. Kudashev, Head of the Representative Office of Rossotrudnichestvo, Director of the RCSC New Delhi Fyodor A. Rozovsky and the Ambassadors of Denmark, France and Kazakhstan attended the significant event as Chief Guests.
“The most popular game in India is cricket, but football has grown in popularity lately. Today the Russian Embassy was able to gather diplomats from different diplomatic missions, this is a championship of friendship. The tournament is held on the eve of the World Cup 2018 in Russia, which will be a festival of friendship of the whole world,” the Minister said.
Russian Ambassador to India H.E. Mr Nikolay R. Kudashev delivered a welcome address, emphasizing that sports and competitions of this kind were a universal language of communication, a way of achieving mutual understanding and strengthening of friendly ties between different peoples and states. “We are very glad that the Embassy’s initiative on holding the first football championship among the diplomatic missions of New Delhi was supported by the Indian government and the diplomatic corps. Traditionally Russia and India, relations between which have acquired the status of special and  privileged strategic partnership, share such values as humanism, democracy, openness and multipolarity”, the Head of the Russian diplomatic mission added.
