Russia India consultations on UNSC issues
On December 2, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey V. Vershinin held consultations with Shri Vikas Swarup, Secretary (West), Ministry of External Affairs of the Republic of India, on the UN Security Council related issues, including in the context of the India's taking up the non permanent seat at the UNSC for the period 2021-22.
A thorough exchange of views took place on a wide range of issues on the UN agenda. Special attention was paid to the settlement in Afghanistan, Democratic Republic of Congo and Libya, as well as situation around the Iranian nuclear program and the fight against terrorism.
The Sides expressed mutual intent for close interaction at the UN Security Council based on the UN Charter, norms and principles of the international law and in line with the special and privileged strategic partnership between Moscow and New Delhi.
Both Sides reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing authority of the UN and strengthening its central coordinating role in international affairs, including in the context of the 75th anniversary of the world Organization celebrated this year.
